about

When we set out to write the demos that became our first studio release, the EP "Now The Swell," we didn't know it would turn out to be the first album released on the label we helped found, Tricycle Records, or the first of five releases by The Union Trade.

What we did know is that we wanted to make songs that were beautiful, atmospheric and dark. Songs that moved from the spare and intense, to the massive and dramatic. We were learning how to make the music we heard in our heads and discovered in the band room.

What came of those early experiments was an expansive sound of colliding guitars and vocals that emerge from dense melodies and cinematic walls of sound drawn from on our alternative, indie and post-rock influences like The Appleseed Cast, Mogwai, Longwave, Explosions In The Sky and Slowdive.

One reviewer described our first EP this way:

"Sonic ambition carefully crafted into songs with emotional immediacy and visceral impact...melodic shoegaze guitar rock that is indie to its core but orchestral in mood, movement and force."

"Now The Swell" is our origins recorded. Hope you enjoy.
